Barber gives 9-year-old free haircuts for life for good grades

Kamarian Fox, 9, went to see barber Mike Shelton for the first time in August. It was right before entering the fourth grade. After Shelton, of Next Level Barbershop, and Fox started to talk, Shelton promised Fox he would give him free haircuts for life if he got good grades on his first report card.

Shelton said he could tell Fox was excited about school and motivated and that he was a good kid, so he thought he’d make Fox a deal.

About two weeks ago, Fox showed Shelton his straight-A report card.

Shelton kept his promise and gave Fox a free haircut and he brought him to the front of the line and told Fox he was a VIP for the day. He told Fox he would continue to give him free haircuts every single time he got good grades.

Fox’s mother said she is proud of her son and she was grateful to Shelton for being a father figure to her son. She said she’s a single mother and she was especially appreciative.

Shelton views his gesture as paying it forward and a tribute to other barbers he once looked up to. He said you can impact people’s lives for 30 minutes and inspire them to leave the barbershop and do something great.

The barber said he hopes other barbers will do something similar to what he did for Fox.
