The woman, 49-year-old Mousumi Dam, went and saw a doctor last month after she got jaundice. Before seeing a doctor, for months she was suffering from acid reflux and severe abdominal pains.
Dam underwent an ultrasound and that’s when she found out about the gallstones. The doctors were amazed to see the massive cluster of stones in her gallbladder.
Mousumi was referred to a hospital, where she received surgery. The operation lasted for around an hour and surgeons ended up removing 360 stones.
Dr Makhan Lal Saha, professor of surgery at the hospital, said that he has never saw so many stones in a patient before.
Dr Saha said that he has worked as a doctor for more than 30 years and this was the first time he has seen that many stones in a gallbladder.
The doctor added that it’s hard to determine what would have caused such a massive number of gallstones, but it might have been due to the high amount of cholesterol in her bile. Also, the formation of stones can occur if a patient doesn’t drink enough water.
Mrs. Dam was able to leave the hospital after three days and she is currently at home where she is recovering. She could have kept her stones in a glass jar, as it was offered to her, but she refused.
