The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) made the announcement on Friday, reports CBS News, after Norwood, Massachusetts-Based Mayborn USA received 3,066 reports of mold in the removable, one-piece, opaque valve in the Sippee cups.
At least 68 children have experienced diarrhea, vomiting, and other symptoms after drinking from the cups. Good Housekeeping is also reporting that at least three months ago, parents began posting photos on FaceBook showing the moldy one-piece valves, thick with a build-up of gunk.
On the manufacturer’s notice, five Sippee cups are affected by this recall, including the First Sips Transition cup, Trainer Sippee cup, Sportee bottle, Swiggle/Sippee tumbler, and the regular Sippee cup.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the cups involved in this recall. Consumers can contact Mayborn and receive a free replacement cup by going online at www.tommeetippee.us and clicking on the “cups recall” button located at the very bottom of the webpage. Consumers can also call the company toll-free at 877-248-6922 any time during the week and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Saturday.
The cups were sold nationwide for around $4.00 each and are made for children four months to one year of age. The cups under the recall were manufactured from December 2014 through May 2016 and sold at retailers including Target, Walgreens and Walmart, and through online retailers including Amazon.
