The recall has come from two U.K. statutory bodies – Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) – and the recall relates to frozen meat and fish products prepared by the company MDA Products Ltd. The reason for the recall is because the products have been repackaged in unapproved premises.
The risks associated with repackaging relate to the manufacturer’s “best before dates” potentially being extended beyond those originally set by the manufacturer. This could result in the food either degrading and being unsuitable for consumption, or present a risk of contamination. The official notification states there are “a number of labelling and traceability contraventions” in relation to the food.
