Chopped walnuts recalled due to Salmonella risk

According to Food Safety News several Fisher nut products are being recalled. The recall has come about because routine testing of several nut products, conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has raised the possibility of contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

The specific strain of Salmonella causing the infection has not been named. Whichever species, Salmonella bacteria cause gastrointestinal illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and sometimes vomiting and fever.

The products being recalled are:

P02352 070690 02360 3 Chopped Walnuts 8 oz.
P02352 070690 02360 3 Chopped Walnuts 8 oz.

P02351 070690 02351 1 Pecan Cookie Pieces 8 oz.
P02351 070690 02351 1 Pecan Cookie Pieces 8 oz.

No illnesses have been reported from the public to date.

In related news, Jump Your Bones Pet Treats are also being recalled due to a Salmonella risk. The brand is “Roo Bites (Cubes)”, which actually contain Kangaroo meat. The affected product is: 63633010041 for 80g. / 2.82 oz., including samples of .32 oz.
