Gayle and Nkosi Johnson

2009-01-01 14:27:23

Gayle Johnson of Cape Town adopted the HIV-infected boy Nkosi although he was not orphaned: his biological mother was unable to care for him. This gutsy child gained fame when he lambasted Pres Thabo Mbeki at an AIDS-conference, asking him to provide antiretroviral medicines for HIV-infected moms and -children. While Nkosi lived a full albeit far too brief life, he proved that ARV-treatment gives sufferers a better, longer life.
