Review: Mitchell Tenpenny performs at PlayStation Theater in New York (Includes first-hand account)

Tenpenny shared the stage with fellow opener, country sensation Ryan Hurd.

He opened his set with the mid-tempo and energetic “Truck I Drove in High School,” and it was followed by “That’s How She Goes,” which had a neat melody to it, as well as the party tune “Mixed Drinks,” which was clever and liberating.

Other noteworthy tunes included “Telling All My Secrets,” and the drinking song “Alcohol You Later,” prior to concluding his set with the edgy and unapologetic “Bitches.”

Tenpenny clarified that his single “Bitches” was not about the female bitches or the male bitches, it is about the “bitches, bitches.” Regardless of the who the song was about, the carefree “Bitches” was certainly a favorite song among the country fans at the sold-out PlayStation Theater venue.

The Verdict

Overall, Mitchell Tenpenny was able to warm up the PlayStation Theater stage for Dustin Lynch. His opening set was upbeat and fun, and it garnered 4.5 out of five stars.

Tenpenny’s Linden Avenue EP is available on iTunes.
