Review: Kesha back with empowering single ‘Praying’ — song of a lifetime (Includes first-hand account)

One thing is for sure. Kesha is not afraid to showcase her vulnerability on this single record. It is filled with raw emotions derived from all the pain that she has been through over the past four years (with producer Dr. Luke). She co-wrote this moving tune with Ben Abraham and Ryan Lewis, and it is featured on her forthcoming studio album, Rainbow, which will be released on August 11. It has an orchestral arrangement and a liberating vibe to it, as she is able to share her experiences with her listening audience.

“Well, you almost had me fooled, told me that I was nothing without you, oh, and after everything you’ve done, I can thank you for how strong I have become,” Kesha sings in the opening verse.

“Praying” is available on iTunes.

The Verdict

Overall, Kesha is back stronger than ever with “Praying,” which is perhaps the best vocal performance of her lifetime. It is a true anthem of female empowerment. This is a song that deserves to go to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and it deserves to garner the songstress multiple Grammy nominations (and awards). Vocally, and lyrically, it is a true musical masterpiece. “Praying” garners five out of five stars.
