Review: Jake Miller soars on new studio album ‘2:00am in LA’ (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with the infectious “Can’t Help Myself,” which instantly lures the listener into this new collection of songs. It is followed by the mid-tempo and refreshing “Halfway,” which has a nonchalant vibe to it. Equally fun and upbeat is “Parties.”

“Sleeping With Strangers” is a great story song, with a neat echo effect to it. The nostalgic “Palm Blvd” has catchy beats to it, and it immediately breaks into “Answers” and the heart-wrenching yet beautifully sung “I Wish You Didn’t Love Me.” “No Return” has an addicting groove to it.

The album closes with “Lost Time,” which is reminiscent of a Justin Bieber tune (and that is meant as a compliment), as well as the liberating “Back to the Start.”

The Verdict

Overall, Jake Miller has shown his growth and maturity as a recording artist on this new album. This CD allows the listener to get to know Jake Miller the vocalist on a more intimate level than his previous albums and extended plays (EPs). There is a lot of variety on this musical project, whree no two songs have the same identities. This CD garners an A rating. Bravo Jake.
