This marked the rapper’s third night show, out of his four-night run at the iconic Madison Square Garden. This was in support of his latest studio album, Views, which has spent 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 all-genre charts, and rightfully so.
Speaking of the new album, Drake performed the majority of the songs from it, where he was able to deliver hit after hit. “Summer Sixteen” served as the opening, which was the namesake of the tour. Hip-hop recording artist Future also made multiple cameos over the course of the set, and he put on a solid performance in his own right.
One of the highlight songs of the night was his live version of the ever-popular “Hotline Bling,” where everybody was singing along, which felt like an R&B anthem at the Garden. This hit single stuck in his fans’ heads even as they were exiting the venue.
The laser lights were vibrant and they captured the mood of each song throughout the evening. Drake returned for an encore that includes such tunes as “Hype,” “Know Yourself,” “Energy” and “Legend.”
The Verdict
It was evident that Drake is a natural entertainer, who was born to command the stage. The hype is real, and he deserves all the awards, including a Grammy, and other accolades that have come his way. His Madison Square Garden show was high-energy, unfiltered, upbeat and he had the audience in the palm of his hands the entire time. His nonstop energy level ought to be commended, especially with him being to perform such a lengthy set-list (well over 40 songs) with ease and confidence. Drake is worth seeing live whenever he comes to town. His concert earned an A.
