Review: American Idol winner Phillip Phillips soars on new single ‘Miles’ (Includes first-hand account)

This marks Phillips’ first new music after his settled legal dispute with 19 Entertainment. The mid-tempo and sultry single “Miles” showcases his growth and maturity as a contemporary singer-songwriter. “Miles” deals with going through change, as well as not being alone when it’s happening. It has an optimistic message to it, in knowing that there is light after darkness. His fans and listening audience are bound to find the song’s moving lyrics relatable and heart-warming.

Phillips’ rich and crisp vocals on “Miles” are reminiscent of such acclaimed musicians as Dave Matthews meets David Cook, which ought to be taken as a major compliment. He sings with a lot of heart on this record.

This summer, Phillips is out on the road touring with the acclaimed pop-rock group Goo Goo Dolls, which runs until September. Fans can expect to hear his new single “Miles” at his live shows, in addition to his smash hits “Gone, Gone, Gone,” “Raging Fire” and his American Idol coronation song, “Home.”

In 2012, Phillips was the winner of the eleventh season of the reality singing competition, American Idol.

The Verdict

Phillip Phillips delights on his new single “Miles,” and it is back that he is back stronger than ever. The new direction that his music is going in seems promising. “Miles” garners five out of five stars.

“Miles” is available on iTunes.
