Rising singer-songwriter Jaafar Jackson chatted with Digital Journal about his new single "Got Me Singing." He comes from pop music royalty: he's the son of Jermaine Jackson and the nephew of Janet Jackson and the late "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.
On his new single "Got Me Singing," he said, "It started with just the drums and I loved the rhythm and movement of it so I put down some chords on the keyboard that I thought would sound good with it. Once we had those two elements, I went into the recording booth and put down melodies. Soon after we had the whole song finished."
Regarding his plans for the future, he shared, "I have a lot of plans. I want to travel the world and perform everywhere and experience different cultures. I would also love to get into film soon and also start doing music for movies."
On his musical inspirations, he said, "I get inspired by many things, it can be from past experiences, movies, traveling, pretty views, relationships, whatever I feel at that moment. That’s what I love about music. Ideas can come from anywhere."
Digital age of entertainment
Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine, he said, "All the ways I listen to music is using technology through apps (Spotify, Apple Music) the way I create music through computer apps like Logic. I wonder how it is going to be 10 years from now on how we listen and create music. I’m very curious to see that."
On being an artist in this digital age, Jackson said, "With the technology that we have it’s definitely beneficial for all artists to be in this digital age with it being easier to get the exposure you want for your music but at the same time it can be difficult because there are so many artists out there and so much music to digest. There are pros and cons in my opinion. More pros for me."
"Technology has made everything easier," he explained. "If you want to get an album you can do it all from your phone and don’t have to drive to a store a buy it like the old days. Same thing with booking concert tickets. It also gives the artist the ability to get their music out there and be independent," he explained.
On his dream collaboration choices, he said, "Most of my dream collaborations aren’t alive anymore but there’s a lot of current artists I’d love to create in the studio with like Kanye West, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell."
For his fans, he concluded about "Got Me Singing," "I am so happy and thankful for the response I’ve been seeing on my first single. It really means a lot to me. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the album. I really look forward to doing live shows and meeting fans."
