Interview: Tegan Marie talks Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and influences (Includes interview)

The young songstress was born in Grand Blanc, Michigan, a suburb of Flint, in 2003. She picked up a guitar at six, wrote love songs at eight, and was playing national stages by 11.

Her single “Lucky Me,” which received a glowing review from Digital Journal, benefited the Hurley Children’s Hospital, part of the Children’s Miracle Network, in her hometown of Flint, Michigan, who were affected by the water crisis.

Tegan Marie played a show with country star Hunter Hayes on August 13 in Farmingville, New York. “That was amazing. I also got to open for Jessie James Decker, Drew Baldridge and even Cassadee Pope. I had so much fun,” she said.

On August 27, she will be returning to New York to perform at the 2016 Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the tennis stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York. This annual grassroots tennis and entertainment event is the largest in the world where some of music’s hottest acts have performed on their way to stardom, including Britney Spears and Justin Bieber. “I am performing for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day. It is going to be such an amazing time, and actually that same week, I will be performing on Good Morning America,” she said.

Each day, the young songstress shared that she is motivated by her fans, and their responses on her social networks. “My fans motivate me and they make me want to sing even more,” she said.

She hinted that she is working on new music, and she is doing writing sessions in Nashville. “Hopefully, the new music will be out soon,” she said.

Her biggest musical influences include such country acts as Kelsea Ballerini, Chris Lane and Florida Georgia Line. Speaking of Lane, she listed him as her dream male duet choice in country.
