Interview: Runaway June talks ‘Lipstick’ single, dream male duets (Includes interview)

Regarding their single, “Lipstick,” Naomi said, “We had a co-write with some really good friends. It was actually Rebecca Lynn Howard’s idea about somebody who ruins your lipstick and not your mascara. We thought that was the coolest thing ever. It happened really fast, and that song was written in an hour. It is the positive side of a break-up, and it’s a positive way to look at heartbreak. People have really been responding to it.”

Jennifer continued, “For us, the message is so positive, and I have a younger sister, and it’s everything I would want to tell her. It’s a positive, feel-good song and it’s fun.”

“It is about being able to move forward, and finding somebody who loves me for who I am,” Hannah added.

They are signed to Wheelhouse Records, which is an imprint of the Broken Bow Records Music Group. “It has been such a blast. There are other great artists on there, such as Trace Adkins and Granger Smith, which we love, and we couldn’t be happier,” Hannah said. “Our whole team is great, and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

On their dream male collaboration choices, Hannah listed Keith Urban, Naomi picked Vince Gill, and Jennifer selected Garth Brooks.

Jennifer noted that they handle their own social media personally. “We really try to respond to anybody that comments and wants to know us. You can easily find us,” she said, with a sweet laugh.

Their songwriting is inspired by their life experiences, as well as other’s people’s experiences, which would make good song choices. “We all write what we know. If we write a song then we’ve been through it,” Jennifer said.

Runaway June’s “Lipstick” is available on iTunes.
