DJ Krafty Kuts discusses new studio album ‘All 4 Corners’ (Includes interview)

On the song selection process for All 4 Corners, he said, “We wrote about 20 tracks which we whittled down to 15 and tried to cover all the genres & flavours that are fitting to our style. A couple of the tunes that didn’t make it I personally really loved but sometimes it’s what sounds good as a collection of music.”

When asked about his personal favorite songs on the album, he responded, “My personal favorite is very difficult to choose but I have two. ‘Boom Banging’ cause I love the riff, melodies and vibe. ‘It ain’t my fault’ with the legendary Chali 2na is just so infectious, hooky and so damn funky, plus Chali and Dyna worked so well together that we are gonna work on another tune. I love all the tracks on the LP as they all have different vibes and styles. It was so cool to work with so many talented artists and I am very proud of the final product.”

On electronic music in the next five years, “Probably not doing as many shows as I do to be honest, I have been non-stop touring the world over the last 20 years which has been tough at times. I love it but I have a family and being away so much is very difficult and stressful. I am working on loads of projects like promoting more shows and festivals. More collaborations in the studio. Possibly going into the food business as well. You never know what is next on the menu.”

When asked what inspires his music, he said, “I have always been into Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz, Disco & old stool Electro. All my music has inspiration from all the above. I listen and make DJ mixes from all the music I grew up on and my Golden Era Podcasts have been really successful due to the fact I have never forgotten about my first love of music. This helps keep me in tune with my roots and what I feel makes Krafty Kuts Funky.”

“Study and learn the music you choose to play and make,” he told aspiring DJs and producers. “Watch DJs you are inspired from on YouTube or live. The Boiler room sets are a great way to maybe see DJ’s you might not get chance to watch live. Practice as much as you can with every spare moment you have. Learn about your equipment and find what suits you the best i.e. Traktor, Serato, CDJ’s, abelton live there are so many choices now as technology is advancing so quickly. Learn tricks like dropping a cappellas, vocal drops and scratch samples. Search for old tracks to end your set with. Maybe get in the studio and write an intro or get an MC to record some vocals drops. It all depends on what type of DJ you are but the options are plentiful.”

For his fans, he concluded, “We are working on a live show so hopefully in the next few months we can take our show live. We have wrote so many tracks together now it seems the logical progression. We also have a live Future Funk project called Wicked City featuring Erb N Dub, Skope, Damien Soul, Steve Barton, Rory Harvey so the band is there ready to go. We will be working on keeping the tunes coming and have some VIP versions and remixes all coming soon.”

The album is available on Spotify.
