Dirty South talks ‘All I Need,’ future plans and digital age (Includes interview)

On his new single “All I Need,” he said, “Last year, I did two albums and one of them was all instrumental, and recently I released a four-track EP which was also instrumental, so I felt like I wanted to do a vocal record and ‘All I Need’ felt right.”

He recently wrapped up his “Little Devious” tour and went straight to work in the studio upon his return. “It’s very natural to me to go on tour, get inspired DJing and then go back to the studio for a couple of months to make new music. It’s a really nice balance that I am finding these days,” he said.

On being an electronic artist in this digital age, he said, “It’s great, to be honest. We have so many tools available to us. An infinite amount of inspiration just literally floating around us. It’s the best time to be making music. When I first started, there was no YouTube or places where you can learn anything of interest. These days, I can learn anything I would like, from making music to being a tennis player.”

Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine as a producer, he said, “I try to keep up with the latest plugins and all the updated software that is of interest to me. There are always new tools that can provide inspiration so if I see something I would buy it and instantly try to make a song with that tool. I also love Dropbox.”

“I upload my latest versions of songs I made to dropbox, and then I would go to the car and check the mixdowns from the dropbox folder to see if anything sounds problematic. Back in the days, you would have to burn CDs. So the process is much faster now and environment-friendly,” he said.

For young and aspiring DJs and producers, he said, “My main advice is to work super hard and believe in your craft even if others around you don’t believe. The world is a big place, and there is enough room for everyone who is talented and hard-working.”

On his dream collaboration choices, he said, “I am a big Anthony Kiedis fan. Also, I love Tracey Thorn and Bon Iver. In no particular order, any of those would be pretty sweet to collaborate with.”

Regarding his plans for the future, he said, “I am back in the studio now for a couple of months working on new music and then I’m going on a tour in January, February and March to support the new track ‘All I Need’.”

For his fans, he concluded, “Well, first of all, thank you all for listening to me all these years and I really hope you enjoy the new track.”
