CB30 talks new single ‘Cool If You Wanna,’ country influences (Includes interview)

The duo of brothers noted that their band name came from the first initials of each of their names (Christian, 16,and Brody, 13), and they were both born on the 30th of the month (May 30th for Christian, and March 30th for Brody).

On their new single “Cool If You Wanna,” Christian said, “I wrote that song with my dad, Jay Clementi, and Jim McCormick. It’s a song about being in a relationship with a girl, and not really putting a label on it. You are friends, or just hanging out or just dating, and you are cool with whatever. That’s the title we had, and that’s how the song turned out.”

Their song’s music video for “Cool If You Wanna” features the duo’s grandparents. “It was awesome, because we didn’t hire actors,” Brody said. “We thought it would be cool to do the video with our grandparents, since we have a strong bond with them. Filming the video was natural. It felt like we were hanging out with them. Our grandfather had such a big influence on us, musically. He taught our dad how to write songs and play the guitar. It was cool to have them playing a part in our video,” Christian added.

Regarding their plans for 2018, CB30 said, “Hopefully, we will perform for more people, and record more and meet new fans. We will do more songwriting, and hopefully tour a little bit.”

Christian noted that most of the songwriting is done by him and his father, while Brody focuses on the guitar licks and the melodies.

On the impact of technology in the music industry, Christian said, “It has changed it for everybody. There is a lot of streaming lately. The industry has changed dramatically, since albums are not selling as much as they used to. Now, it is adapting to the changes.”

Regarding of their use of technology in their lives, CB30 said, “We are big on Instagram and on social media. We are always Snapchatting, but we try not to get caught up in it.”

They listed Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars as their biggest musical influences.

Brody from the duo listed Ariana Grande and Kelsea Ballerini as his dream female collaboration choices. Christian concurred with his younger brother on Kelsea and added Maren Morris as his dream female collaboration partner.

“We hope the fans like our song ‘Cool If You Wanna’ as much as we do,” they concluded. “We are pretty proud of the song and the way that it turned out.”

CB30 defined the word success as “hard work and preparation.” “You’ve got to put the hard work in, that’s how success come about,” Christian said.
