Catching up with Ruth B: Multi-platinum recording artist (Includes interview)

Her breakthrough radio single, “Lost Boy,” has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “It feels amazing, and really great that people are enjoying my little song,” she said. “I actually just got my plaque yesterday when I was at the label. They presented it to me and it was very sweet,” she said.

She has been nominated for a 2016 “Teen Choice Award” in the “Choice Music: Next Big Thing” category. “I am really excited about that. I grew up watching the Teen Choice Awards, so it is really humbling,” she said.

Each day, she is motivated by her passion. “No matter what happens, I always keep my head up and I am excited to live life,” she said.

On October 4, she will be performing at Radio City Music Hall in New York, along with fellow Canadian songstress Alessia Cara. “I am so excited to be playing at Radio City, and to be able to have my first tour with someone whose music I really believe in,” she said.

Her plans for the future are to continue working on her first full-length studio album. “I’m working on my first album, and I finished writing all the songs,” she said. “Everyday life is what inspires my songwriting. It’s the little things that make the best songs.”

Ruth B’s proudest moments involve when her fans are moved by her music, especially when her songs have a positive impact on people’s lives. “A little girl told me that when she heard ‘Lost Boy,’ she was inspired to sing it at a talent show, and it helped her overcome her fear of performing. Moments like this bring me the most joy,” she said.

Her dream male duet partners would be to someday sing a song with Ed Sheeran, as well as Stevie Wonder, the latter of which she dubbed as “a big, wild crazy dream.”

In her spare time, which is a rarity these days for Ruth B, she enjoys spending it with family and friends, as well as read books, eat food, go to nice restaurants, and watch Netflix.

She defined success as being “Happy and passionate about what I am doing. Also, when people are taking messages out of my songs. As long as I’m inspiring and touching people, I’m successful.”
