ATW talks new single and music video for ‘How Can I’ (Includes interview)

On the idea for their song, “How Can I,” they said, “The inspiration behind the song came very naturally. We didn’t have a particular topic in mind when we started writing and producing the song. We just wanted to express how we were both feeling at that moment. One night, after ongoing frustration and misunderstandings within our relationship, Sara decided that instead of allowing herself to get angry or upset, she would channel that energy into the song and, in no time, ‘How Can I’ was born.”

They continued, “The video for ‘How Can I’ was meant to show viewers the isolated, vulnerable and exasperated side of our relationship. We truly hope that when people see the visuals, they will feel the emotion and sincerity behind the record. Nobody is perfect and there are no perfect relationships, but forgiveness and love can go a long way towards healing and rebuilding.”

The duo noted that it was a cathartic process to write this tune. “We think the creation of music is very therapeutic for us. We tend to write songs based on our emotions and translate those feelings through our vocals when we record. ‘How Can I’ was one of our favorite songs to record because of how vulnerable and open we were able to be. We hope that others going through the same thing can gain healing from the song the way we did.”

On their future plans, they said, “We plan to keep creating and making new music. We want to continue to introduce the world to ATW. Right now, we are anticipating the release of our debut EP Us Against the World in early 2018. We really hope people like what they hear and want to know more about us. We can’t wait to start promoting and performing our project around the world.”

Regarding the digital transformation of the music scene, they said, “We both believe that social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have created a pathway for artists, especially indie artists, to be seen and heard around the world. You can easily get lost in the overflow because there are so many artists trying to promote their music on various platforms. We think indie artists, in this day and age, really depend on taste-makers and bloggers to promote their work in a way that allows them to compete with a major label artist. We don’t think that people knew years ago about the enormous impact that online platforms would eventually have on the music industry. We are at a stage in music where an established or emerging artist doesn’t necessarily need a Label to promote or distribute music anymore.”

On their use of technology in their routine, they said, “We are fortunate to have a recording studio at home which allows us to create music anytime the inspiration hits us. Staying in tune with all the latest music software can be challenging, but certainly gives us as artists direct access to make high quality music.”

They listed Drake, Chance The Rapper, and Rihanna, as their dream collaboration choices.

For their listeners, they concluded about “How Can I,” “Although it is a very personal song, we know that many people can relate to it. Many duets attempt to manufacture love by telling fictional stories about relationships. We are sharing our hearts with our fans, and we appreciate them for listening.”
