Frank DeCaro, dressed in silver shoes, served as her opening act, who was able to get the stage warmed up and energized for the “Queen of Mean” with his clever jokes as he joked about such celebs as Meghan Trainor, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.
As she took the stage, in the round of the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, Lampanelli noted how much she loves Long Island, and praised the crowd for being “handsome and gorgeous.”
Being the equal opportunity offender that she is, she poked fun at a whole cast of ethnic peoples. She also complimented DeCaro for being one “funny” opening act and shared how they met each other. While several of her jokes went over some of her fans’ heads, she stepped aside on the stage and she would clarify several of the meanings.
Lampanelli is a fan of gay marriage, and is proud of the fact that it has been legalized in all 50 states, and noted that the only two people that should not be allowed to get married are two ugly people. “Have you seen the travesty that can result from one of them unholy unions,” she underscored.
She made fun of such celebrities as John Travolta, Carson Daly, Clay Aiken (from her days at The Celebrity Apprentice), as well as Bill Cosby. When she opened up about her experience on The Celebrity Apprentice, she acknowledged that it was “crazy,” as she made fun of Donald Trump’s hair, while doing spot-on imitations of him. She also ridiculed one of her former female teammates on that show, whom she described as “useful as a tampon at Betty White’s house.” On the other hand, she praised Dee Snider of Twisted Sister for being a “gentleman” and “hard worker.” She won $180,000 for her charity, the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. She blamed Trump for ruining more women’s lives than anorexia. For the Trump supporters in the venue, she immediately broke into jokes about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
The insult comic was proud of her weight loss, where she was able to lose 107 pounds, and she has kept it off for 4.5 years. It was quite difficult for her to lose weight, since she tried a variety of diets (Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig) and none of them worked for her.
A native of Connecticut, Lampanelli shared that she is starring in her Off-Broadway production, Stuffed, which is about women’s obsession with food, among other things.
The final portion of her show involved a re-enactment of her roast on Howard Stern, who is a good friend of hers, as well as her “hero in the business.” She concluded her stand-up comedy show by bringing opener Frank DeCaro back on stage, and conducting a question and answer session with the NYCB Theatre at Westbury audience.
The Verdict
Overall, Lisa Lampanelli proved to be like fine wine, where she only gets better with age. She is the perhaps the best female comedian in the industry. When it comes to humor and quick wit, Lampanelli is second to none. Frank DeCaro was a superb opener. All hail the “Queen of Mean.” Her show at Westbury garnered an A+ rating.
