Lisa Durupt talks about new film ‘Breakthrough’ and technology (Includes interview)

“It was a great experience to work with the cast of that show,” she said about Breakthrough. “I was in heaven. In addition, it was filmed in my home city so I saw so many familiar faces on set, between cast and crew. It was amazing.”

She noted that this movie meant more to her since it was based on a true story. “I had followed the story on the news when it happened. It was overwhelmingly fulfilling to work on it, knowing the outcome was as miraculous as it was,” she said.

Each day, as an actress, her main driving force is “passion.” “When you are truly passionate about something, you can’t quit. My desire to learn and grow as an artist is always on my mind, it drives me every day,” she said.

On her plans for the future, Durupt said, “At the moment, my plans are completely focused on my new baby girl. She is the center of my entire world and I love every minute of it.”

Digital transformation of the entertainment industry

Regarding the impact of technology and streaming in the entertainment business, Durupt said, “I think it is a Catch 22. There is so much amazing content out there, therefore, there is a ton of work for artists all over The world. It is a really exciting time to be an actor. However, that also means that the viewer is overloaded with choices and it can be hard to keep their attention.”

She continued, “Great programs get lost in the mix really fast and can end up getting canceled within days of being released. Gone are the days of waiting until the following week to find out what happened in your favorite show. The last one I watched like that was Lost. I think that anticipation factor made it even better and I secretly hope that one day we do go back to that.”

Durupt listed the following three actors as the ones she would love to someday work with: Stanley Tucci, whom she described as the “male Meryl Streep,” as well as Bradley Cooper for being “insanely talented,” and Stephen Colbert, whom she dubbed as “smart and self-deprecating.”

For young and aspiring actors, Durupt said, “Get real with yourself. Why do you want this? It is not easy, it is not a guarantee. But if you love the hustle and the hard work that it asks of you, you are on the right path. Be kind, work hard and never look back.”
