The recruitment company Indeed has revealed, through its survey, the five most popular entry-level technology jobs in the U.S. These are: junior Java developer, computer-aided engineering engineer, junior product designer, junior data analyst, and junior software engineer.
To arrive at the top five, Indeed used a proprietary “popularity index”. Data was drawn from the time period February 2018 to July 2018 time period, and include in the analysis is defined clicks as an indicator of interest from potential candidates.
In terms of what these jobs entail:
Junior Java developer
Java developers are often involved with enterprise scale cloud communications projects. Java is a general-purpose computer-programming language that is concurrent, class-based, object-oriented. It is intended to let application developers “write once, run anywhere” (WORA).
Computer-aided engineering engineer
Computer-aided engineering refers to the broad usage of computer software to aid in engineering analysis tasks. Jobs in thi field are broad, but they operate a solution suite of software tools which plan, manage and maintain the work of an organisation within a physical space and also the people involved in facilities management.
Junior product designer
Product design jobs are very broad, many involve the development of applications for commercial and consumer use.
Junior data analyst
Key skills for a data analyst include using scripting and statistical languages and familiarity with campaign management. Roles include reporting using data visualization software. Experience with structured query language programming is also core to many activities in this area.
Junior software engineer
Software engineers apply the principles of software engineering to the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of computer software.
While technology jobs stand high on the Indeed list, the top overall jobs (from all industries) are in engineering, with the role of junior mechanical engineer occupying the number one spot. Moreover, nine of the 15 most popular entry-level jobs are technical. This tally includes several computer jobs and engineering-related jobs.
