Art and crafts paints aren’t something anyone would think about being dangerous, especially with all the federal regulations concerning what is allowed to go into the products, but low, and behold, something did get into some paints that aren’t supposed to be included, and it is very dangerous.
The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall notice for Pennsylvania-based Sargent Art Arts and Crafts Paints on October 4, 2016, that includes 13 types of Sargent Art tempera and finger paints that include all colors and sizes of containers.
The products, which are contaminated with an unspecified bacteria, were sold nationwide and in Canada at retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Hobby Lobby, and online from May 2015 through this past June. See the list below for the products under this recall.
It must be noted that Sargent Art discovered the bacteria during routine testing, and found the contamination to be at “high levels.” The bacteria is not harmful to healthy individuals, says Sargent Art, but to those individuals with compromised immune systems, it could be harmful. So far, there have not been any reported illnesses or injuries associated with this recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled paints and contact Sargent Art at 800-424-3596 for a full refund.
