Bombardier lands major train contract in Australia

-

Canadian engineering giant Bombardier said it is leading a consortium that has secured a $4.1 billion contract to supply trains and maintenance services to Queensland in Australia.

"The Queensland government today announced its order of 75 new six-car trains, maintenance services for a period of 30 years and the construction of a purpose-built maintenance centre under a 32-year public-private partnership," Bombardier said in a statement.

The consortium comprised Bombardier Transportation, John Laing, ITOCHU Corporation and Uberior and the total value of the contract is approximately 4.4 billion Australian dollars (3.0 billion euros, $4.1 billion) with Bombardier's share valued at approximately 2.9 billion Australian dollars (2.0 billion euros).

The trains, which will be built in India, would be used for commuter services in South East Queensland, Bombardier said.
