Review: Pentatonix divine on OMI cover of ‘Cheerleader’ (Includes first-hand account)

In their song’s music video, the band members are wearing letterman hoodies, as they are dressed in school uniforms, and are serenading “Cheerleader” in an indoors gymnasium. K.O. charms on beatboxing, while Scott Hoying has a rich baritone voice, coupled with Avi’s bass, Mitch’s tenor and Kirstie Maldonado’s angelic soprano. All five of their voices blend well together, and it showcases their diversity as a musical group, to the point where it feels like five different songs in one.

The Verdict

While this might sound a bit redundant, but Pentatonix’s vocals are too good to be mortal. They were able to outdo Jamaican singer OMI’s original chart-topping single “Cheerleader,” and they gave it an ethereal twist. They ought to add this radio-friendly tune to their live sets, especially since it will fare well with their fans. This ranks one of their best performances along with their “Michael Jackson” and “Daft Punk” medleys. It garners 5 out of 5 stars.
