Review: Melissa Etheridge outstanding on new ‘This Is M.E.’ album (Includes first-hand account)

Etheridge either penned or co-penned all eleven tracks on the CD. It begins with the powerhouse “I Won’t Be Alone Tonight,” which instantly lures the rock listener into this musical project. It is followed by the upbeat and infectious “Take My Number,” and the moving “A Little Hard Hearted.”

“Do It Again” displays the rock songstress’ rich and husky voice. “Monster” showcases her wide range as a recording artist, and it features neat background vocals. It is no wonder that this is the tune that Etheridge claimed as her personal favorite on this album.

“Ain’t That Bad” is a soaring track, while “All The Way Home” features her raspy vocals. “Like A Preacher” is yet another stand-out tune, which is a true vocal masterpiece. “Stranger Road” is a crisp and haunting ballad, and “A Little Bit Of Me” is laid-back and smooth.

Etheridge saves the album’s best song for last. This is M.E. closes with the piano-driven ballad “Who Are You Waiting For,” where she showcases her vulnerability. Her delivery is emotional, the lyrics are optimistic, and this vocal tugs at the heartstrings.

The Verdict

Overall, Melissa Etheridge is amazing on her latest album. It is filled with raw emotions and lyrics that will resonate well with her fans and listeners. “Who Are You Waiting For” and “Like a Preacher” are worth the price of the CD alone. Etheridge is like fine wine, she only gets better with age and experience. This album earns 5 out of 5 stars.
