Review: Melissa Etheridge captivates the Beacon Theatre in New York City (Includes first-hand account)

The guitar queen shared the stage with fellow veteran rock sensations Pat Benatar and her husband Neil Giraldo. Etheridge opened her set with “Angels Would Fall” and she continued with “If I Wanted To” and the upbeat “I Want to Come Over,” which was infectious. It was followed by the intense “No Souvenirs” and “Don’t You Need,” where she showcased her raspy yet dynamic voice.

Prior to singing her new tune “Pulse,” which she penned for the Orlando nightclub shooting, she noted that we’ve come together to celebrate our differences and these differences make up strong in this country and the world. “Underneath the skin, everyone has a pulse,” she said, and that resonated well with the Manhattan audience. This song became an anthem for her fans, who were raising flags up in the audience, and rewarded her with a lengthy standing ovation.

She blew the roof off the venue with a stellar performance of her signature song “Come to My Window,” where everybody was reciting the lyrics back to her. Equally powerful was “Chrome Plated Heart” and her ballad “I’m the Only One,” where she was able to nail the high notes.

The rock goddess concluded her set with the rocking “Bring Me Some Water” and “Like the Way I Do,” thus leaving her fans yearning for more.

The Verdict

Overall, Melissa Etheridge was excellent at Beacon Theatre in New York. She had the New York audience in the palm of her hands. Her live concert earned an A rating.
