Review: Lorde honors David Bowie at Brit Awards with ‘Life on Mars’

Just when one thought that Lady Gaga’s homage to David Bowie at this year’s Grammy awards could not be topped, Lorde proves everybody wrong again.

Grammy winner Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics and actor Gary Oldman gave moving speeches about Bowie as he was honored with a Brit Icon Award. The most impressive part of the tribute was when Lorde joined his actual band for a stellar live rendition of “Life on Mars,” and she was able to dust off that classic and make it her own.

Even Bowie’s son was pleased with the outcome of this remarkable performance, and rightfully so.

The Verdict

Overall, Lorde’s tribute to David Bowie was spectacular. Her vocals were haunting, crisp and captivating. It is safe to say that Bowie is smiling somewhere in heaven. Lorde sang with a great deal of heart, and one could easily tell that he was a musical influence in her life growing up. Her performance garnered an A rating.
