It is one of those songs that will make his listeners instantly want to clap their hands to. His vocals are reminiscent of Train front-man Pat Monahan (“Bruises”). “I Belong To You” was co-penned by Hicks, as well as Erik Martennson and Jorge Eloffson, the latter of which wrote two hit singles for Grammy-winning songstress Kelly Clarkson (“Stronger” and “A Moment Like This”). It has neat acoustic guitar and fiddle instrumentation, and it has a Celtic vibe to it. “I Belong To You” is liberating, coupled with strong hook and melodies. The backing vocals produce a soothing echo effect.
“I Belong To You” is the follow-up to his sophomore single “Mama’s Kitchen,” which was a Top 10 hit on the New Music Weekly charts, peaking at No. 7. This milestone made Hicks the first Swedish country artist to place his first two releases in the Top 10 on the New Music Weekly charts. “I Belong To You” should follow in that same direction, and climb a lot higher.
The Verdict
Overall, Hicks’ uplifting “I Belong To You” is one of the best radio singles by a male country artist this year. He lures his listeners in, and gives them a true musical experience that they won’t forget. He deserves to make it big in the country genre of music. It earns 5 out of 5 stars. Congratulations Hicks.
