Review: Emmy nominee Chris Gerolmo haunting on new album ‘The Heretic’ (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with the raspy yet rebellious “I’m Tired,” and it is followed by the acoustic ballad and neat collaboration “What Can The Matter Be?” and the melancholic “This is For The Dead.” “The Bridge” begins with stunning acoustic instrumentation and it has a liberating message to it.

His album continues with “God,” “Dirty Ol’ Lie” and the haunting “Why Is This Taking So Long?” His vocals are reminiscent of such musicians as Cat Stevens and Steve Earle meets Bruce Springsteen.

“Everything But Me” has a strong melody to it and catchy lyrics. It closes with the fitting tune “Goodbye.”

Gerolmo is the Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter of “Over There,” which is the title track for the FX series about the War in Iraq. Throughout his career, he has recorded three albums, as well as two EPs of original material, which he affectionately dubs as “increasingly alternative.”

He has earned a Golden Golden nomination for writing the screenplay for Mississippi Burning, which garnered seven Oscar nominations. Gerolmo is a multi-Emmy award nominee for his directing and writing.

The Verdict

Overall, Chris Gerolmo has a unique sound to his music, and his new album is worth checking out. There is a wide variety of instruments on this musical effort. He is very expressive and political on this CD, and it is recommended for fans of alternative rock and singer-songwriter music.
