The Grammy nominees include country newcomer Cam for “Burning House,” Chris Stapleton for “Traveller,” Carrie Underwood for “Little Toy Guns,” Keith Urban for “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” and Lee Ann Womack for “Chances Are.”
Analysis: For Cam, the Grammy nomination is the reward this year. Urban’s single is not his greatest musical work to date. This category is a tight race between Carrie Underwood and Chris Stapleton. Underwood has been a Grammy favorite for years, which might give her the edge, but Stapleton’s recent wins at this year’s Country Music Association (CMA) awards for “Male Vocalist of the Year,” “Album of the Year” and “New Artist of the Year” may very well work to his advantage and help him secure a Grammy win. Besides, Stapleton has earned four Grammy nominations this year, which include nods for “Album of the Year,” “Best Country Song” and “Best Country Album.” This award is Stapleton’s to lose.
