Kodaline talks new album ‘Coming up for Air’ and Terminal 5 show (Includes interview)

The song selection process for their forthcoming album Coming Up for Air was simple and swift. “We did most of the album on the roads, and whatever songs we wrote on the roads made it on the album,” he said. “We are very proud of this album, and we love every song on there.”

He added, “We are very much a live band, and that’s where we are best at.”

Garrigan listed the tune “The One” as his personal favorite from the record, especially since he wrote it as a wedding song for a dear friend of his. “I had known him since I was a kid, and I wrote it as my wedding present to him,” Garrigan said.

He feels extremely privileged to be a part of his record label, RCA Records, and shared that their lead single “Honest” is a cool tune, and it has fared well in their live shows. “The history that RCA Records has is incredible. We are very lucky,” he said.

Speaking of live shows, Kodaline will be performing at Terminal 5 in New York City on April 25. “New York is my favorite city ever. We have never been to Terminal 5 but I’ve heard it is really good,” he said. “We are from Ireland, so for us to play in New York is incredible. New York is such a beautiful city. Writing, performing and playing music is the best job in the world. It is a dream and it is incredible.”

The band stays connected with their fans via Facebook and Twitter. “That is amazing,” he said. “Nowadays, if I am writing a song in the studio, I can put a video up in an instant on Facebook and Twitter. It’s amazing to be able to do that.”

He listed Ellie Goulding as his dream female duet choice. “She is unbelievable and her voice is just incredible,” he said.

For Kodaline, success means longevity in the music industry. “If we could make this a life-long job and release as many albums as we can, that is really the dream and that is what success would mean to us,” he said.
