On their new single “Breaking Up My Bones,” Calmes said, “We wrote that after our first EP that we released. We came up with the title track ‘Breaking Up My Bones’.”
He added, “We actually shot the video in Los Angeles, and we were out there as a band. It was kind of cool since it was our first video that we did as a band under Fueled By Ramen. We were in Pollution Studios and the team was really great. The video turned out really cool, and we love the concept.”
They worked closely with the record label for the song selection process of their album, Electrogram. “We had picked a lot of our older songs that we had, and worked on some new songs, and they picked the song that they liked the most. Of those songs we really had creative control to do what we wanted, so that was really nice,” he said.
On July 6, they will be performing at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City. “New York,” he exclaimed. “That will be the first time that we ever headline there,” Calmes added.
He listed Brandon Flowers, the lead singer and principal songwriter of The Killers, as his dream collaboration choice.
They have spent the entire year on tour with such artists as Twenty One Pilots, Magic Man, The Mowgli’s, Smallpools, in addition to their own headlining shows. Their single “Breaking Up My Bones” is working its way up the Modern Rock radio charts, and it is No. 2 on Sirius’ Alt 18.
For aspiring musicians, he noted that perseverance is important. ‘Don’t ever give up on it, and just keep going even when nobody else believes in it,” he said.
Calmes expressed how proud he is to be a part of the Fueled By Ramen label, especially since there are a “lot of giants on their roster.” “There is a lot to look up to, but we are trying to stay focused and look forward for ourselves since we are our own band. It’s just about us following our own path,” he said.
