Interview: Tony Ferrari talks ‘Mothers’ single and new music (Includes interview)

On his hit single, “Mothers,” Ferrari said, “My mother and I have always had a fantastic relationship. Growing up, I wouldn’t be where I am without her. When I wrote the song, it came out very quickly, and I wanted it to be an ode to her. I ended up playing a show, and she was sitting right in the middle and she had no idea about the song, so I played it for her, and it was super-special. By the time it came time to make the album, we knew we had to put it on there.”

His “Mothers” song was well-received and it was recently featured on the Ellen show. “I lost my mind a little bit,” he said with a laugh. “I definitely ran around the block. It was so cool and so special. The video wound up going viral during the week of Mother’s Day. Just to see the comments from the moms that it spoke to was really great.”

For his Gentleman album, he acknowledged that he has 15 to 20 songs to choose from, and he was drawn to them because of their honesty. “They portrayed a message that I wanted to put out there,” he said.

Regarding his plans for the future, he said, “I want to spread my music as far as it can go. I want to play shows all over the world. I am writing a lot of songs, and I am writing for a couple of different artists, and I love that. I love songwriting.”

Ferrari listed singer-songwriter Tori Kelly as his dream female duet choice. “Tori is on fire, and she is great. She is incredibly talented. She is really, really cute too,” he said.
