As a veteran Tax Manager, he revealed that his job description involves being responsible and managing all the taxes that the firm has to pay. For aspiring Tax Managers, he said, “As a young tax accountant, try to work your way up in the organization. Try to find a good mentor.”
The key to longevity in tax management is “trying to make sure that everything is done properly” as well as “meeting deadlines and making sure you’ve acted as a liaison with the people within the company as well as with outside consultants.”
Bitterman is an alumnus of Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, and he would later earn his MBA (Master’s of Business Administration) degree in Taxation from Baruch College. “I went to school with Jerry Seinfeld, but we did not know each other,” he said.
After working in the field of tax management for nearly four decades, he alleviates the constant job-related pressures such as tax returning filing time constraints with his karaoke passion, hence earning the nickname “Karaoke King of Queens.” “I find solace and relief via karaoke,” he admitted, and his witty motto is as follows: “Always Practice Safe Tax.”
He concluded, “When I go to my office in New Jersey, there is a hotel there that has Wednesday night karaoke, and I love doing that. Karaoke is the way that I use to relieve the stress, and it balances me out.”
Bitterman concluded by praising comedian Jim Breuer. “Jim is the No.1 fan of the New York Mets. I love him, I’ve gotten a few photos with him already and he is a riot. He’s the funniest comedian I know,” he said.
