Interview: Jocelyn Alice talks new single ‘Jackpot,’ Zayn, fans (Includes interview)

Regarding her new single “Jackpot,” she said, “It was one of those really easy, effortless writing sessions where you feel like you’re just hanging with a friend, (which is true because Hello Moth is one of the greatest people I have there pleasure of knowing). The beat was the first thing that Hello Moth played and the melody pretty much wrote itself. We dug in really hard to lyrics and really took our time with the vision of the song. I actually went back and re wrote the hook to be completely different than the original. I am so glad I did.”

Her single has been certified gold in Canada, which is quite flattering for the songstress. ” That’s crazy. I still can’t quite fathom that. When I received my gold plaque I only looked at it twice for a few seconds. I am just not ready to take that in yet. I have fear of losing my hunger with new success. I honestly try not to think about it. I want to maintain my hustle no matter what happens. It’s working!!

She shared that one of her favorite places to visit is New York City. “I’ve been in NYC for the last week. Dreams. I have honestly never felt so myself in a city before. I am fast walker, talker, thinker. I really fit in here,” she said.

Her song “So Groovy” was featured in a Target commercial. “I was pretty stoked. I remember being in Vancouver getting a call from my producer saying ‘we’re charting on iTunes at #2 in America!’ and I honestly didn’t really understand how. I never imagine that people would actually go and buy the song. 40K singles sold later I am happy lamb. I still haven’t let that one sink in yet either though. I need to get better to taking moments to really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into this. ‘Jackpot’ has been a good reminder of remembering to breathe and feel proud of myself,” she said.

She listed Zayn as her dream male duet choice in music. “I am obsessed with Zayn right now. His voice! His songs! I always have extra appreciation for an artist that can slay live and he is just a beast,” she said.

Each day, she is motivated by her desire of becoming a better person. “I want to make everyone I come in contact with feel good and joyful and hopeful and know that if they don’t feel those things that’s okay too. My family is a big reason I stuck with this job for so long. My mom has got to be the proudest woman alive these days. She never stopped believing in me. It’s very driving to know that she is behind me. I also have teenage little brothers that have a lot of friends that are fans of the song. It’s cool to be reminded how powerful radio still is,” she said.

For her fans, she concluded, “Thank you. To the ones that came to my shows when my songs sucked and I over sang and wore clothes that were 8 sizes too big and still saw something in me, and to the new ones, I can’t wait to get to play live for all of you. It’s gonna be a trip.”
