On his Top 10 single, “American Country Love Song,” he said, “It was a song that seemed to come out of nowhere, at the right time when I needed it. My buddies wrote it and they sent it to me and I went straight in and made it happen.”
His upcoming studio album, American Love, will be out on July 29, via RCA Nashville. “I just knew that I needed to pick the best songs possible, and make a record that will resonate with my fans,” he said, prior to dubbing it as his “favorite record” that he has ever made.
Owen continued, “I am excited for the fans to hear it. I’ve been working hard to put it together. I’ve been going through a lot personally, and there’s a lot in this album, and it has really paralleled my life and the way I like to live. I hope they enjoy it.”
The Florida native listed the song “LAX” as his personal favorite from the new album. His plans for the future are to keeping racking up hit songs, to play stadiums and to make as many fans as possible. “I always try to stay in touch with my fans, and do nice things for them, and build as many friends and fans as possible,” he said.
Each day, Owen is motivated by his drive to be better than the day before. “For me, being better than yesterday is what motivates me,” he said.
He fondly remembered the late country legend Merle Haggard. “He was just probably the greatest storyteller in country music that I’ve ever listened to. The simple ways he spoke the truth was beautiful about his music. It will be a while, if ever again, before we hear anybody whose music is as poignant as his,” he said.
Speaking of Haggard, last year, Owen covered his classic song “It’s Been a Great Afternoon” live in concert with fellow country singer Joe Nichols. “That was a lot of fun. We’ve done that a few times together. I love Joe Nichols. He’s a great guy,” he said.
Owen’s new album American Love is available for pre-order on iTunes.
