Cole Swindell talks ‘Let Me See Ya Girl,’ 2015 ACM win and future (Includes interview)

At the 2015 Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards he was crowned “New Artist of the Year,” besting out fellow singer-songwriters Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt. “That was honestly the most motivating thing that has ever happened to me. When the fans and the industry took the time to vote for me, it was so incredible. It means a lot to me, and it was a good kind of pressure. When I heard my name, it was a just sigh of release because I didn’t want to win that for me, I wanted to win that for the folks that have helped me along the way,” the humble musician said.

His latest single, “Let Me See Ya Girl,” is a Top 20 hit on country radio, sitting at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts. “It was the fourth single from my debut album, and I wanted to make the best album I could make. We wanted to end this album with a fun song that the fans have always loved. It’s one of those feel-good, turn it up songs,” he said.

On August 15, Swindell will be performing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he will be sharing the stage with country mega-stars Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney. “We are going to come up there and play MetLife. That’s the stadium that I played with Luke Bryan last year. I can’t wait. I am from down in South Georgia and I don’t get around to go to that area that much, but when I do, I am feeling more comfortable everywhere I go and I am having more fun. Being from a little small town in Georgia and travelling to all these other places is kinda crazy, but the New York area has been very supportive to me, and they have country fans like no other. We always look forward to getting out there, especially when it’s at a place like MetLife. I am just excited to put another place on my bucket list where the Giants and Jets play,” he said.

Swindell concluded by expressing his condolences for the loss of Grammy-winning country songstress Lynn Anderson. “That was before my time, but as a newer country artist, I know for a fact that we wouldn’t be where we are without every single artist before me. It’s sad to hear about people passing that have paved the way for people like me. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family,” Swindell said.
