This week, Lee topped the Country Streaming Charts with her classic holiday hit “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Even more impressive is that the song made the Top 40, sitting at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, for the first time since 1961. “It feels pretty darn great,” she said.
Lee acknowledged that “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” is “a great song, which was written by a great songwriter.” “I was just blessed to get it, and of course, then the fans, God love them, went out and bought it. Without them, nothing would be nothing,” she said.
A few weeks ago, the acclaimed songstress performed at show at the iconic Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, where she celebrated her 71st birthday at that concert. “That couldn’t have been better,” she said. “It was just great. I have never been one to go by age, I am young at heart and that is how I feel.”
Regarding her plans for 2016, she said, “I want to be with my family and I want to do a little work on the road. Nothing out of this world. I want to know that my family is happy and I hope that the world gets safer and better.”
When asked about her New Year’s resolutions, she said with a sweet laugh, “I don’t make those anymore.”
For her fans, she said, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me realize my dream that I had as a child, and for continuing to let me realize that dream, and use my gift that God gave me. Keep on rocking.”
Lee also remembered her good friend, the late country legend Lynn Anderson, who is best known for “Rose Garden.” “Lynn Anderson was my dear friend. I think she was a fireball, a wonderful singer and a philanthropist and a good all-around person,” Lee said.
