On being a part of the Adele impersonation video, she said, “It was really quite unbelievable. I received a call from the BBC, Our No. 1 television channel, asking if I wanted to take part in a pilot show celebrating the work of Adele. I had to audition using a two minute smartphone clip. I didn’t expect to hear anything back as nothing like this has every happened to me before. I am a full-time professional singer but have never been involved in any TV work. When I heard back from the BBC, the researcher said the producers loved me. I think I am very much like Adele in the fact that we come from the same part of England, and have the same sense of humour, so I think this helped. As you can imagine, I was very excited. Little did I know that I was to meet my idol!! It was the most amazing experience and very surreal.”
Martin continued, “When myself and my husband (who is also the UK’s leading tribute to Neil Diamond) saw the show, we knew our segment (Adele as Jenny) was going to be popular as it was so funny. We watched the YouTube figure, pretty much overnight and it was astounding, it just kept rocketing and I was getting lovely comments from overseas. My daughter is 8 and is obsessed with the U.S. She has a pen-pal in NYC so we have been very excited that our friends across the pond have been watching. It is completely overwhelming.”

Martin complimented Adele’s music for being simply “beautiful.” “When I am performing, I always joke that her songs are so sad and before 25 came out I would say ‘as she is now happy, I hope she can write a decent album’ 25, for me is incredible. She is such a down-to-earth girl, from a working class background and the emotion in her writing is inspiring. I like to think, that although I am NO Adele (when you hear her live, you can really appreciate why she is so successful) that I am able to put over the emotion in all of her songs,” she explained.
When asked about her personal favorite Adele songs, Martin noted that “Someone Like You” will always be a favorite. “When I sing it live the audience are always mesmerized (without sounding too immodest). The words are so beautiful,” she said. “‘Hello’ is definitely a favourite and I am also looking forward to learning ‘When We Were Young’ from her album. It has been dubbed, here in the UK as ‘Someone Like You 2’ as it is as good. Ultimately, because I am such a huge James Bond fan, I love ‘Skyfall,'” she said.
On her plans for the future, Martin concluded, “They are to keep doing what I do best. Performing, but it would be lovely to perform for a larger crowd. I’m not greedy, but a few more would be wonderful. My daughter’s ambition is for me to appear on the Ellen Show.”
