A conversation with the group Foxtrot & The Get Down (Includes interview)

The group shared that the song “Just a Kid” had a long history with them. “The initial verse of the song was written a few years back, but the song floated around our catalog for a while. It continued to get kicked around and then we cut a demo for it prior to pre-production on the album. Our producer, Tres Sasser, heard it and just kind of ran with how huge he felt it could be. The attitude he put behind the song fit perfectly with the lyrical story and what came from it was huge and mean and beautiful.”

They were named “Artist of the Month” by The Deli Magazine: “What an honor being the Deli Artist of the Month. It was a nice feather in the cap to be able to have that come about right after we released our EP Sold the Soul last year. We check that blog regularly, so seeing ourselves at the top was pretty ridiculous.”

On their future plans, they said, “We’ve learned to kind of just roll with whatever comes our way. We try not to look to far ahead of ourselves, but we’ve seen a lot over the past year, so we can only imagine what this year has in store. Just trying to work hard, hit the road, shoot some videos, release all this music we’ve been cutting down in Nashville, and just live uncomfortably in a van and on couches.”

Regarding the song selection for their EP, they said, “We tried to pick the best tunes to introduce people to our sound. The songs just keep coming to us, and we keep growing as a band, between expanding our sound in the studio and adding touring members and instruments to make our live show as insane as humanly possible. These songs on the EP are going to really give listeners a great peek into our sound.”

On the origin of their band name, they said, “We can’t lie, the story is much lamer than you’d think. Our drummer, Ryan, his last name is Fox. Hence, Foxtrot. We all dug the name ‘the Get Down’ and in a drunken decision, combined the two. Yes, lame indeed.”

Their musical influences range from Phish, 311, Nelly, Band of Horses to Otis Redding. “It’s a huge mash up of influences, but it makes for something different and unique. Also makes for good times fighting for the AUX chord on tour.”

For their fans, they said, “We just want to say we love you and appreciate all the support we’ve been given. We can’t wait for you to hear ‘Black Coffee.’ We love our Foxtrots.”
