‘Fallout 4’ trailer debuts after much speculation

Though speculation about the content of Fallout 4 has been ongoing for years, Bethesda — also behind the popular Elder Scrolls franchise and a revamped Doom — whipped gaming fans into a frenzy with a teaser tweet yesterday:

One day later, Fallout 4 was officially confirmed. So far there’s not a lot of information about a release date or gameplay, as Bethesda is likely waiting until this month’s E3 conference to go into detail.

Though the game was just announced Wednesday, rumours of the game began all the way back in December 2013, when Kotaku reported on leaked documents saying Fallout 4 was in development and would be set in a post-apocalyptic Boston. Both of those rumours now appear to be true.

The trailer sets a grim tone right off the bat, as old-timey music plays over a pan of a completely ravaged household. As a dog wanders across it, time flickers and hints at a nuclear disaster, explained by a news anchor. Eventually the soft music gives way to a more intense score, and the trailer shows scenes of devastation and various humans (and perhaps other creatures?) move in.

Fallout 4 will be the first game in the franchise since 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. Both games were critically acclaimed.
