First trailer streamed for upcoming ‘Fantastic 4’ reboot

Did you know that 20th Century Fox also holds the film rights to the Fantastic Four? If you didn’t, now you know why Marvel Studios hasn’t made a movie adapted from the franchise. This is a reboot of the film franchise, which will be different from Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

That means 20th Century Fox also owns the film rights to the Silver Surfer because of his association with the Fantastic Four franchise.

20th Century Fox has streamed the official teaser trailer for the new Fantastic 4 movie, which is scheduled to release on August 7th. The trailer reboots the origin story of the titular Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom.

You may notice that this version of Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch is African-American.

Miles Teller (21 & Over, That Awkward Moment, Two Night Stand, and Whiplash) will portray Dr. Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards, Transsiberian, 24, and Zoom) will portray Dr. Susan Storm aka Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights, The Wire, and Chronicle) will portray Johnny Storm aka Human Torch, and Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer, Nymphomaniac, TURN: Washington’s Spies, and Jumper) will portray Benjamin Grimm aka The Thing.

Reg E. Cathey (Grimm, The Wire, House of Cards, The Divide, and Lights Out) will portray Dr. Franklin Storm, who is likely the biological father to Johnny Storm and probably the foster father to Susan Storm. It should be safe to assume that this version of Susan Storm is adopted.

Toby Kebell will portray Dr. Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom, the antagonist of the story.

This version of the Fantastic Four will be younger than their comic and film counterparts.

Live-action movies and animated TV shows adapted from famous comic book franchises are here to stay as Marvel Comics came up with the proverbial blueprint with its planned movie phases. Marvel Entertainment also has Disney’s financial backing to also thank due to the latter’s acquisition of the former.

Marvel Comics fans have Avengers: Age of Ultron to look forward to on May 1st and Ant-Man to look forward to on July 17th.

Unless you have an understanding of intellectual property rights for different mediums of entertainment, you are probably wondering why certain heroes or villains have yet to appear. For example, you may have wondered the reasons the Avengers have neither teamed with Spider-Man nor with the X-Men let alone Wolverine.

Sony Entertainment currently owns the film rights to Spider-Man, but there are talks of the studio working with Marvel Entertainment to bring the titular superhero to the official movie universe.

The relationship between Marvel Comics and 20th Century Fox is not that great.

20th Century Fox currently owns the film rights to the X-Men franchise, which includes mutants and the X-gene. This is why you haven’t seen Wolverine work with the Avengers. The one loophole centers on Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who you can see in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

They will not be classified as mutants though.

Marvel Comics has currently forbidden the creation of new characters for the X-Men franchise because 20th Century Fox will automatically receive the film rights to use them. If one person decided to create a new character for the franchise, the film rights for that character will automatically go to 20th Century Fox.

This could be one of the reasons that Deadpool is getting officially killed off soon.

In related news to Fox and Marvel Comics, there is a planned TV series adaptation of the X-Men, but is waiting for Marvel Entertainment to give the green light.
