If you did, you can look forward to the premiere of season two on April 26th.
Showtime streamed the 2nd trailer to the show recently. You can hear singing throughout the trailer and see that it is Evelyn Poole aka Madam Kali singling. She is having a literal bloodbath in a tub full of dark and thick blood.
It has already been established that Madam Kali will be the main antagonist of season two.
Vanessa St. Ives, portrayed by Eva Green, says that Lucifer wasn’t the only person to fall from Heaven, which could mean that Madam Kali has a very dark soul. Kali will be portrayed as a very human villain, but a very dangerous one nonetheless.
You can see she has dark plans for the characters on the sole fact she is literally bathing in blood.
Last season’s primary plot focused on vampires, where Sir Malcolm Murray (portrayed by Timothy Dalton) employed the help of Vanessa St. Ives, Victor Frankenstein (portrayed by Harry Treadaway), Sembene (portrayed by Danny Sapani), and American gunslinger Ethan Chandler (portrayed by Josh Hartnett), to help him locate his missing daughter Mina Harker.
They banded together to locate the Vampire, the villain responsible for kidnapping Mina.
The characters’ personal sub-plots added to the story such as Caliban, Frankenstein’s first monster, demanding a mate.
This season focuses on witchcraft, where Kali is a very powerful witch.
There is the important rule in horror lore that you should never underestimate humans because they can be sneaky and Madam Kali will likely be no exception.
Character sub-plots return in season 2 that focus on Caliban, Ethan, and others.
Ethan’s transformation at the end of season one is an obvious connection to An American Werewolf in London.
Season two of Penny Dreadful looks promising, perhaps a season three will come out next year and it will feature Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or Jack The Ripper.
