‘Rico Suave’ hitmaker Gerardo Mejía to star in reality TV series (Commissioned Content)

Reality TV is about to get more picante thanks to Suave Says, a new VH1 show featuring the Hispanic musician Gerardo Mejía, better known as the man behind the hit 1990s song ‘Rico Suave.’

Gerardo burst high to the top of the music charts in the early 1990’s via his hit single “Rico Suave.” The music video was known for showcasing Gerardo’s chiseled torso, much to the delight of his female fans.

After the song’s surge, Gerardo moved on and became an influential music executive, married a beauty queen and started a family.

Now VH1 is tracking the drama of his family in a new reality TV show to debut Dec. 3. Suave Says stars the patriarch holding together his family and “loco” home: his beautiful wife Kathy, rapping son Jaden and daughters Bianca, and Nadia, an aspiring singer and “Miss Teen Beverly Hills” title-holder. Gerardo’s mother will also play a pivotal role in keeping the family together.

How did “Rico Suave” move on from his ’90s-era success? He decided to work behind the scenes in the music industry, becoming one of Interscope Records’ top A&R executives and credited with bringing fellow Latin singer Enrique Iglesias and others into the mainstream. The apple doesn’t fall from the tree, as his kids want to also tread the musical path.

The appeal of this show lies on the intricacies of managing a busy family while also trying to maintain a successful career. It’s a show applicable to anyone who feels overwhelmed by the everyday drama of juggling family, work, hobbies and, well, sanity.

The series promises to offer insight into the music business, another reason why anyone interested in show business could glean useful advice from Mejía’s successful life.

Check out the sneak peek into Suave Says in the YouTube video in this report, and be sure to tune-in on Wed Dec 3 at 10/9c on VH1!

Suave Says features the crazy, hilarious, and tight-knit Mejia family, and we know they’re not the only ‘loca’ family out there.

VH1 is asking fans to share pictures of their ‘loca’ family moments– things that embarrass them, drive them crazy, make them laugh, whatever families do that’s over the top, and tag them using the hashtag #MyLocaFamily to Twitter and Instagram. All of these photos will appear on MyLocaFamily.VH1.com.

We all have a ‘loca’ family— so go ahead, show us yours!
