Episode 20 of Yona of the Dawn, titled “Chain of Courage,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and FUNimation for paid members. Free subscribers can watch this same episode six days from now on March 3rd.
Yona and company learn the cold truth that human trafficking let alone forced prostitution exists in the country even though it is illegal.
The episode starts on a serious note under Captain Gigan’s leadership as she formulates a proper strategy to deal with Kumji’s forces, rescue the trafficked women, and to ensure that none of Awa’s citizens are harmed in the process.
It is established and a given that Yona can learn a lot from Captain Gigan.
On the flip side, the pirates have a lot to learn from Hak and the Dragons. The pirates would be royally f—ked if they decided to go up against Kumji with neither the proper planning nor proper training. Watching Hak casually charge money for lessons had me laughing.
Yona learns another hard lesson on the damage that brutal dictators inflict on their own people as Jae-Ha teaches her. You can obviously see that Yona still has plenty to learn about the country, which went down the toiler because of her father’s weak policies.
There is a comical moment when Jae-Ha is mistaken for a pervert when Yona decides to check on somebody.
It was funny when Yona nonchalantly went along with it.
But Gi-Ja is more ignorant than Yona is in the ways of the world when he freaks out at a crab claw in his soup. Gi-Ja’s been living in isolation for so long that he does not understand the concept of seafood let alone crap and lobster.
I was not surprised by the fact that Yona volunteered to infiltrate the shop that traffics women. I was half-expecting Yun to be sent in Yona’s place after one of the pirates jokingly asked him to be his bride because of the soup he made.
I laughed when Yona and Yun both got sent undercover.
This is perhaps the moment that Yun should have kept quiet because his words did not come out right.
I have to say that Yun is correct by saying he looks good dressed as a chick.
Watching Gi-Ja dress like a woman was horrifyingly funny and I did not expect Ao to dress up like a female, too. I am glad to see that Gi-Ja comes up with different ways to be inadvertently funny to everybody else.
This episode shows that there is more to the series than just humor, drama, and action.
I didn’t expect Yona would volunteer herself to go on a covert mission let alone to infiltrate Kumji’s ships to rescue the kidnapped women. This side of Yona has me intrigued as she reminds me of Ange from Cross Ange because they share commonalities of once being ignorant and understanding how the world works after they have everything stripped from them.
