Review: The Revenant is the first film worthy of an Oscar in 2016

The Revenant is selling out movie theaters across the globe and some say it will soon break records. The movie is based on true events that took place in 1820. The story follows a man left for dead after a gruesome bear attack in the North American wilderness.

The leading role is played by Leonardo DiCaprio and many are suggesting his phenomenal performance will finally land DiCaprio an Oscar as shared in an article by CBS news The intensity he exudes on film is mind-boggling and is in my opinion the best acting the actor has portrayed in years. Not since his role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape has DiCaprio pulled off such an amazing performance.

The co-star Tom Hardy is unrecognizable in his role as DiCaprio’s adversary. The two face off and the storyline keeps the viewer holding on to the edge of their seats waiting to see how the story will unfold. Tom Hardy is known for his intense characters including his recent portrayal of twin mobsters. It is possible the Hardy will be an Oscar contender for both movies.

The Revenant follows DiCaprio’s character as he struggles to survive after being left for dead after a bear attack. From the very beginning of the bear attack to the struggle to survive alone in the wilderness, to meeting unlikely allies, to confronting those who caused harm, the movie keeps your eyes on the screen. The movie has amazing graphics and unbelievable settings. It is hard to imagine the pain and anguish felt by those involved in the true events that inspired this cinematographic masterpiece but this movie makes one feel as if they are living it themselves. The Revenant is a must see movie!
