Review: ‘Maria The Virgin Witch’ EP 11 shows the power of ‘true love’

Episode 11 of Maria the Virgin Witch, titled “If You Want To Be Loved, Love,” is currently streaming on FUNimation and Hulu for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on March 29th.

I am refreshed and relieved to know that Galfa didn’t sexually violate Maria.

It was surprising that Edwina’s medicine was being used by the Church, but without the latter’s knowledge. I laughed at the sheer sense of irony that the Catholic Church condemned Maria, but ended up distributing medicine made by witches. This shows the blindness of the Catholic Church clergy and other leaders.

At least I know that there are other ways to neutralize Maria’s powers. I admire her to intervene in battle without her powers.

As for Galfa, Joseph ultimately learns his true colors. This is a man driven by the want to be rich and to be acknowledged, which makes him incredibly dangerous to cross. It is ultimately the reason Galfa murders Ywain and takes over his post as the mercenary leader.

Galfa ultimately reveals that he never liked Joseph in the first place.

Maria shows up in the nick of time and knocks out Galfa with a flying knee to the face, which made me laugh. It shows that women can be strong let alone Maria even though she doesn’t have her powers. Galfa easily beat the s—t out of Joseph and killed him only to be knocked down by Maria, who shows up from nowhere.

The reunion isn’t completely pleasant when Maria scolds Joseph.

I had a “holy f—k” look on my face when Lolotte shows up and nonchalantly carries Galfa away from the church. Galfa looks heavier than Lolotte, yet she is able to carry him off in one arm and hold a weighted golden crucifix in the other arm.

This turns into the moment that viewers wait for, where Joseph and Maria confess their love for each other. I felt that Joseph jumped the gun by asking Maria to marry him. Rhetorically asking, shouldn’t they start dating first?

I was shocked that the declaration of love triggered Maria getting her magic back.

This leads to the most interesting ending. I loved Maria’s jab about the “new faith,” which ends up discarding people. It really isn’t Maria The Virgin Witch without Maria throwing at least one jab to the Roman Catholic Church.

Keep in mind this does apply to religion in general.
