Review: ‘GARO — The Animation’ EP 16 is literal ‘medical malpractice’

Episode 16 of GARO: The Animation, titled “Cure,” is currently streaming on FUNimation for paid members. If you are a free member, you can watch this same episode roughly six days from today.

I am wondering when Leon Luis will reclaim the Golden Armor or something else, but there is the feeling that he will never wield another armor again. Alphonso and Herman are busy dealing with Horrors at night, with the former doing it within the city walls and the latter doing it on the outskirts of the city.

Leon is simply living life and learning that there is more than fighting Horrors.

Then there is the mysterious arrival of Dr. Fabian the mystic healer, who agrees to look after the sick in exchange for food from the village. Apparently he’s not the bad guy as the jealous and desperate Mikel wastes no time in murder given the best opportunity.

This cements the reason Horrors exist and the darkness in Mikel’s heart will create one.

Herman gives his pep talk about not being consumed by desire, which is lost upon the arrival of two women he may have sexual relations with. It is important to note that viewers should already know that Herman is a philanderer and a womanizer.

There was an instance where Herman was the “other man.”

Mikel starts the feasting process by selecting the healthy targets, which reminded me of Supernatural’s seventh season centering on Dick Roman and the rest of the Leviathans.

I get the feeling that Herman truly cares about Ximena and she could end up being his second wife. So what better way to show it than to have Ximena at the center of a hunt for a dangerous Horror, which is Mikel disguised as Dr. Fabian.

The plague is a nice touch, too.

Mikel proves to be one twisted doctor deserving of losing his medical license. Then again, I doubt the concept of medical licenses exist in GARO: The Animation. It does make one wary of the regular doctor visits.

This episode was very enjoyable to watch and the ending was interesting. It makes me wonder how the rest of the series will play out.
