He started his show impersonating Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman and joked, “I wish I had Morgan Freeman to narrate me through life’s situations.”
Caliendo subsequently made fun of former U.S. President George W. Bush and what he has been doing lately following his presidency; moreover, he made a smooth impersonation of Bill Clinton, noting that if Hillary were to be elected president, he would be the first gentleman in the White House and he would be having a great deal of fun. “Sometimes, I go off on tangerines,” he said, impersonating George W. Bush.
He continued with impersonations of such actors as Robert Downey Jr. and Liam Neeson. Caliendo noted that he is a fan of NBA veteran Charles Barkley and while he loves him, he said that one “cannot play Scrabble with him.”
Other hilarious moments were his impersonations of Adam Sandler and television host Jay Leno. “I think Jay Leno is the only person on earth that if a bobble-head were made of him, it would bobble less than his actual head,” Caliendo joked.
He also poked fun of Dr. Phil and how he would rather take advice from Dr. Pepper instead. Caliendo shared that his best impersonations are those of former football player John Madden.
Caliendo praised The Paramount for being a venue with “great shows.” While going into his career on ESPN, he shared that there are “more characters on ESPN than on Cartoon Network.” He compared ESPN to The Simpsons doing sports.
He explained his nine year tenure on Fox NFL Sunday as a show that is “on Fox, about the NFL.” “I can’t remember what day of the week it is on,” he joked.
Caliendo’s other impersonations were of Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Chris Farley, David Letterman, as well as a Paramount audience member who joked that his sports team is “down four.”
The Verdict
Overall, Frank Caliendo did a superb job with his comedic show at The Paramount. For the entire 90 minutes of his set, the audience was immersed in his jokes. Several audience members were even in tears from laughing so hard. His show is worth checking out whenever he is in the area. It garners two thumbs up. Well done.
